Brighter, Clearer Skin.

Sun exposure, redness, pigmentation and the natural aging process can affect the appearance of your complexion. IPL (Intense Pulse Light) uses targeted pulses of broad-spectrum light to address common signs of sun damage and uneven skin tone, helping your skin look brighter, more even and refreshed.

At Luminess Med Spa, IPL treatments are customized to your skin, your concerns, and your goals. Whether you’re looking to reduce pigment, redness, or restore a more even complexion, IPL can be an effective part of your treatment plan.

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. While IPL is often called a “laser” treatment, IPL is actually a light-based treatment that uses multiple wavelengths of light rather than a single laser wavelength.

IPL delivers controlled pulses of light into the skin. Depending on the settings selected for your skin type and treatment goals, the light is absorbed by targeted areas of pigment and visible blood vessels. This allows IPL to address certain types of discoloration and redness while leaving the surrounding skin largely unaffected.

IPL is commonly used as a non-invasive treatment for sun damage, freckles, brown spots, uneven skin tone, facial redness and visible small blood vessels. it can also give the complexion an overall brighter and more refreshed appearance.

What is IPL?

IPL works through a process called selective photothermolysis, in which specific wavelengths of light are absorbed by targeted structures in the skin.

For pigmentation, the light energy is absorbed by melanin, the pigment responsible for brown spots and discoloration. The treated pigment becomes darker following treatment and is gradually cleared by the body as the skin heals.

IPL can also target hemoglobin within visible blood vessels, making it useful for reducing the appearance of certain types of facial redness and small visible vessels.

Because IPL addresses specific targets beneath the surface of the skin, it can improve the appearance of discoloration without removing the outer layer of skin like an ablative resurfacing treatment.

IPL is therefore a popular option for patients looking for skin rejuvenation with little to minimal downtime.

Is IPL Right for You?

IPL can be an excellent option for patients looking to improve sun damage, pigmentation, redness, and uneven skin tone, but it isn't appropriate for everyone.

Certain medications, recent sun exposure or tanning, active skin conditions, and individual skin characteristics can affect whether IPL is recommended and how treatment should be performed.

During your consultation, your provider will assess your skin and review your medical history to determine whether IPL is a safe and appropriate option for you.

If IPL isn't the right treatment for your concerns, we can also help you explore alternative options that may better fit your skin and goals.
